Women at ELGi #InspiringTheFuture – Karmin Reese
Currently, the manufacturing sector is undergoing rapid changes. With technological advancements, the sector is now opening doors to diverse skillsets. Furthermore, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a reducing gap between physical and digital manufacturing, which calls for innovative processes for the future.
In a scenario like this, women in manufacturing have tremendous potential to step up and take charge. This, in turn, would broaden their horizons and shape them into inspiring leaders of tomorrow.
Here’s Karmin Reese, Project Administrator – Pattons Medical, and how her openness to help has been a huge learning curve for her.
Why did you choose to become a Project Administrator?
I chose to be a project administrator because I like being part of teams. I enjoy collaborating with others and helping out.
What do you think helped you get so far in your career?
I think staying positive and open to experiences really helped me with my career.
What values by ELGi have stayed with you since you first joined?
Since I joined ELGi, the values of ‘Sensitivity’ and ‘Quality’ have stayed with me.
What have been your key learnings at ELGi?
I think, since I’ve joined here, ‘patience’ has got to be one of my key learnings.
What’s the first thing you bought with your own money?
(*Laughs) Honestly, I don't remember!
How have you handled multiple responsibilities with ease?
I guess by enjoying the process of working at home, I could handle multiple responsibilities. Enjoyment plays a really important role.
Based on your experience, what advice would you give to young women considering a career in your field?
I’d tell them to have a good attitude and be respectful towards others.
What’s your favourite thing about being a woman?
As women, we have a remarkable ability to be sensitive towards the needs of others.
Which woman or women inspire you and why?
My mom. Her resilience has been a constant source of inspiration for me!
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’d really love to learn another language!
What does the International Women’s Day slogan, #ChoosetoChallenge mean for you in your work life?
For me, #ChooseToChallenge means to be a part of something and to take a stand for it.
In view of the #ChooseToChallenge theme, what advice would you give your younger self?
I’d tell her to take a stand and validate it.
What is the message you want to send to young women thinking about a career in the manufacturing industry?
I’ll tell them to be open to opportunities!
